Aidfilfitri in Brisbane

Hari Raya celebrations this year was a tad different as we spent it away from home sweet home. Even though we are miles away from family and friends, celebration is still a must for us so we managed to get the day off from OIPP to celebrate Eid.

The night before the special day was spent cooking the traditional dishes like ketupat, rendang and lodeh. Slavering over the hot stove with Eid songs in the background and all of us squeezed into one kitchen really made it feel more lively and festive.

On the day of Eid, we were all dressed in our baju kurung ready to do some visiting. So off we went to take the train to North of Brisbane to visit and celebrate with the other celebrating families in Brisbane and not forgetting eating to our hearts content. The children dressed in their traditional costumes were playing in the back yard while the rest of the adults were talking, laughing, eating, singing and watching malay movies. We had a ball of a time!

Here are some photos of the celebrations:

I was cutting the cabbage for lodeh.

Farhana stirring the rendang.

Our version of lodeh. (It tasted wayy better than it looks. haha!)

Our rendang!

The final feast of ketupat, lodeh and rendang.

On the way to Petrie to visit Farah's family and the others

Wahyudin, Farhana and I waiting for Bawani at the train station.

The happy and satisfied families at the end of the festive day.
